Demo against Iceland Dam - Wednesday 8th Feb, Oxford

Please join our demo against a company involved in massive ecological destruction in Iceland.

Europe's largest remaining natural wilderness in Iceland is under threat. Aluminium multinational Alcoa has convinced the Icelandic government to build a hydroelectric dam to provide the power to a smelter they are planning to build. The ecological damage this will cause will be immense.

Rossport Solidarity meeting in Glasgow 3rd Feb

Four members of the Rossport Solidarity camp will be speaking in Glasgow on Friday 3rd February at the Saorsa Social Centre.

Rossport Solidarity Camp was born in June 2005. It is the first protest camp around an ecological theme to take place in Ireland for several years. The camp began after local opponents of Shell's plan to build an unprecedented high pressure gas pipeline through the hamlet of Rossport invited us there to back up their struggle. A large marquee was erected with a kitchen for cooking and eating, sleeping and meeting, notice boards and info point. Compost toilets and compost heaps were built to deal with organic waste and the rest was recycled. A tipi and a large bender provided more space when needed, as well as smaller tents too. Water in barrels was carried in daily from Vincent Mc Grath's house and locals offered showers and laundry. A wind turbine system was set up to harness wind energy giving electricity to power lights, mobile phones and computers.

Dalkeith Protest - Thursday Update

Dalkeith Eviction 5

The occupation of Dalkeith Country Park continues.

No arrests on Thursday!

Thursday 19 January 2006, little was accomplished by the eviction team today. The three who have been in tunnels at Middle Site since Monday still remain. With enough food and supplies to carry them though at least another week underground, spirits remain high that they can seriously delay attempts to feel trees on Middle Site. The eviction team's main success for the day was the eviction of an unoccupied site. It is likely that Friday they will begin work at the Bottom Site, however this is by far the protesters' stronghold and should prove a lengthy eviction process.

2 more arrests and direct evidence of FBI infilitration of activist meetings around US

The FBI's witch hunt against US activists continues, with two more charged with arson in the last 36 hours, both from Oregon state. These latest arrests bring the total indictments in the past month on ELF and/or ALF charges to 11 -- all are likely to face 20 years to life in prison.
