Saying 'NO' to Open Cast Mining
Coal
is not clean energy, and with the new onslaught of proposed power
stations, UK Coal are looking to cash in on climate devastation and
destruction unless we stop them. The single greatest threat
to
the climate globally comes from burning coal to produce electricity.
Gordon
Brown is thinking of giving the go-ahead to a fleet of new coal-fired
power stations which will mean that this mine and many more will be
needed to fuel them.
New coal will mean the end of the UK's hopes of cutting CO2 enough to play our part in tackling global warming.
A yes to coal would destroy Britain's international credibility on climate: how can we expect other countries to cut climate pollution when we are busy building new coal power stations?
We can keep the lights on without resorting to new coal.
Take action to shut this mine/stop this mine from being built and make sure that no new coal power stations are built.
People like you and me up and down the country and across the world are opposing open-cast mines in their communities.
To combat open-cast mining a new action group "Leave it in the Ground" has formed, supported by Earth First! and other local environmental groups that want the government to back down on increasing new coal-fired power stations and destroying Britain's beauty, as well as making locals who live in the vicinity of open-cast mines lives a misery.
