Saying 'NO' to Open Cast Mining
Despite the home secretary giving the go-ahead in Derbyshire, there is still a lot you can do:
- MPs and councillors lobbied: many are against the idea of new coal as it does not make sense in the wake of climate change.
- Public meetings and events: come to meetings and public events to share ideas and concerns and think of new ways we can stop them. Bring friends and neighbours too and make them fun.
- A visible presence at the site: (including protests) to show that they are unwelcome; talk to the staff and voice your objections. The Bodge House residents invite you to visit them on site - map & directions | wish-list
- Letters to local papers: keep writing to the papers, because of the potential for health problems, noise pollution and local environmental damage caused by open-cast mining, this is a potentially fruitful area for visible local campaigning and publicity showing the government it is the wrong decision to back coal.
- Fund-raise; meetings cost money to host, posters need to be printed.
